Boston Week 4

Hola familia mia!

como estan todo? We haven't really had much contact with the people I told you about last week but I will let you know! It has gotten so cold here! Our car said it was 9 degrees today but it is windy so it feels a lot colder. I have these leggings that I wear that are fleece on the inside that are really warm. I wear my gray boots everyday, I need to get some more. Today we have interviews with President. He has been telling us about some really exciting things that are happening here soon. There are a bunch of sisters coming in this next transfer, there are more english sisters coming in than we have english sisters to train. So i might be training soon ahhhh! They are also opening an area on Nantucket, they don't have enough members for even a branch yet so they are called a group. He said they are sending some sisters over there soon. I think he said there will be 8 new areas in the mission. He also said that our branch might call us into the relief society or young women's presidencies. But President seemed really excited to interview me, so it makes me wonder what he is going to tell me.

Did you guys get my package? I bought those stickers from the MTC for the little girls. It says "I am a child of God" this is how you pronounce it. Ready? soy (as in sauce) OOna EEha day dee Ohs. The capital letters is where the emphasis is. There you go, now you know some spanish! Almost as much as I do, haha just kidding. We were in walmart the other day and I was looking down at all the signs for the isles but I could only see the spanish parts of them and I was like aww man but then I remembered that I knew what a lot of those things were. And I was able to find the isle with pan (bread). Oh ya so the other day we went into a small sandwich shop and I was excited when it said they had sovlaki (greek food). So when I asked the lady if she could put fries in mine she gave me that same crazy look that I always get so I explained that when I lived in Athens for a month that's the way they did it. Come to find out she is Greek too, from Sparti. I told her that I was half Greek from my mom and she was like but she's Mormon? but we're Greek Orthodox, Greeks aren't Mormons. How did that happen? So i told her that my mom was adopted from Greece into a Mormon family and then found her biological family later, but she was baptized in the orthodox church when she was a baby. And she was like but she was re-baptized Mormon? It was really funny because I had just told my companion that it was a concept that they didn't understand, and then she got to witness it. haha I love greek people. Well anyway I should get going pero les quiero mucho!

p.s.  no one in the spanish branch can say my name. It's really fun to watch them try haha. I'm Hermana ha....ha.....hacOb....sen.

Boston Week 3

Hi everyone!

I don't have a lot of time because I have been writing other letters and I still need to write to president. We are supposed to do that every week and I haven't done it yet : / But I just wanted to say hi and hope you are all doing awesome. I hear Noel got into the U of U woot woot! I'm so excited and jealous. We had an interesting week. One of our investigators that we have been trying to get to quit smoking started smoking while we were teaching her. A less active member popped open a beer while we were teaching her. We taught a heroine addict. And another investigator had Jehovah's witnesses on her couch when we came to the door, that was awkward. All of those things my companion said has never happened to her, and she has been out for 16 months! So that lady I said was that sister of the branch president's wife visiting from Guatemala, she told us her last night here that she was baptized when she was little! Her sister was just as surprised as we were, all this time she thought she was the only member of the church in her family. The branch president is going to search for her records to make sure she's not confused haha. I am proud to say that I am able to eat my beans when I eat it with something else. Sometimes I need to get a little creative, like my dinner roll haha. Well I should go and write my letter to president but I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!

At the Temple after the sealing!

Boston Week 2

Hello Everyone!

I finally have a normal p-day! Today I think we are going to the aquarium. This week has been awesome! We have another baptismal date! It's a 9 year old girl named Stacy. We originally went over to teach her mom who is a less active and we ended up teaching Stacy, which has been bringing the whole family back into the church. Her mom came to sacrament yesterday. We are working on getting her to get a new job so she doesn't have to work sundays. That is the problem with a lot of these less actives here. One of our investigators is the sister of the branch president's wife visiting from guatemala. Her teaching record is the first one with my name on it! She is so awesome, I love her so much but she is going back to guatemala on friday. I know she is going to get baptized sometime, I just wish I could be there. She gave me her email address though so I will be able to see how she is doing. I got to go to a temple sealing this week! It was so cool! It was a family with 2 little girls so I got to imagine when Ang and Jeff got sealed. Even with a GPS to follow, I still get lost. The roads here are so crazy! There is this one roundabout that is 2 lanes and has stop lights in it because there are 2 lanes running through the middle of it. It's always an adventure. It makes me appreciate the roads of Utah haha. Well I love you tons!

Pictures - Week 1 in Boston

Visiting China Town on Monday! She says she is loving the city!

This is with some Elders and one of their investigators, the sister of  a lady in the ward visiting from Guatemala.

With a member family on Christmas Eve!

First Email from Boston!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you had an awesome Christmas and New Year! Mine was pretty good. I'm writing on a wednesday because the library was closed on monday so we just had to find a different time to do our emails. I love Boston! It is so pretty here. I am still adjusting being out of the MTC and out into the world again but this time as a missionary. It's pretty different. I am starting to get used to being exhausted by the end of the day. Even though I felt like I could learn everything I could from the MTC, there is still a long way to go. Spanish is like a constant stream of sound and the people like to tell really long stories, so I start to fall asleep. I can only concentrate on trying to understand what they are saying for so long, and after 10 or 15 mins of them just talking is when I just concentrate on staying awake. But it is getting better and I understand more and more every day, unless they are Dominican, then I usually have no idea. I love being out and about and teaching. We don't get out until after lunch though and it makes me feel like a bad missionary, even though I'm doing what I'm supposed to. I just have 4 hours of study in the morning from 8-12, doing personal, companion, language, and training. The training is just for my first 12 weeks though and then after that I will only have 3 hours of study, until I am training someone. We have a baptism coming up in the next couple of weeks! His name is Jose Antonio and he is 12 years old. He lives with his grandparents who a less active members. What is interessting is that they speak spanish and he speaks English. They can speak a little English but not a whole lot. My companion had me extend the baptisimal invitation my 2nd day here. I was really excited when he said yes. I hope we can get him ready soon enough though, we haven't been able to go over in a little while because his grandma has been working a lot and we haven't gotten a member to come with us for us to go into his house. Well I am going to go so I can send you some pics too. Love you!
